Drug peddler held with opium

Ludhiana: The anti-narcotic cell of the city police nabbed a drug peddler and recovered 1.2 kg of opium and Rs 56,250 drug money from him. The suspect has been identified as Jarnail Singh, a resident of Angad Dev Colony. Investigation Officer ASI Sansar Singh said acting on a tip-off, a naka was laid at the Partap Chowk. After intercepting, the suspect was stopped for checking at the naka and opium was recovered from him. TNS

Four booked for travel fraud

Ludhiana: The Division No. 5 police booked four travel agents on charges of travel fraud. The suspects have been identified as Arun Gandhi and Varun Gandhi of Civil City here and Neesa and Sukhwant Singh from Jammu. Complainant Ravinder Kumar of Jammu said the suspects had taken Rs 2.31 lakh from him to arrange a visa for Canada. However, they failed to arrange visa. Now they have also refused to return the money. The police have launched a probe. TNS

Man falls prey to cyber fraud

Ludhiana: Ravinder Kumar, a resident of Kidwai Nagar, was duped of Rs 72,000 by cyber criminals. Ravinder said he bought a perfume from a shopping portal for Rs 890. However, when he received the delivery, he decided to return the perfume. He contacted on mobile numbers searched from Google. The said persons, posing as representatives of the shopping site, took the details of his debit card. Later, they withdrew Rs 72,000 from his account. The police have launched a probe. TNS

Two held with 15-gram heroin

Khamano: The Khamano police claimed to have arrested two persons and recovered 15-gm heroin from their possession. The accused have been identified as Lakhwinder Singh of Bilaspur village and Prabhjot Singh of Shampur village, Ropar district. As per information, a police party led by ASI Charanjit Singh had laid a naka on Bhari Road near Sua Pul. On suspicion, two motorcycle-borne persons were signaled to stop. However, they tried to flee but were overpowered. During checking, the police party recovered 15-gm heroin from their possession. Khamano SHO Rajesh Kumar said a case under the NDPS Act had been registered against them. The arrested will be presented in a court for further investigation. oc
