To serve citizens in an effective and accountable way, the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate has taken a unique initiative under the ‘Know Your Case’ scheme. This will help the citizens to get their complaint or case status right on the day of their visit to the police station.

The scheme will be implemented in all police stations, EOW wing, CAW cell, AHT, traffic, cyber crime cell and licensing unit.

Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal said it was a service-oriented scheme to bring greater transparency and accountability in police functioning. Complainants and accused have a right to know the status of investigation and inquiry into their complaints/cases.

Agrawal said the aim of the scheme was to make policing more effective, efficient, accountable and responsive and transparent. Besides, it was also aimed at increased police-public interaction, time-bound disposal of cases and complaints, and increased accountability to public, he said.

One Saturday of every month has been fixed for separate police stations/units for the purpose. Any complainant desirous of knowing the status of his/her complaint/case can visit the police station or unit concerned from 10 am to 2 pm on designated Saturdays.

The SHOs or unit in-charge will personally supervise the proceedings. The record room staff will also remain present along with all records and case property will also be handed over then and there.

Agrawal said the ADCP and the ACP of each subdivision/unit would personally monitor the whole process. One DCP-level officer would supervise working on each Saturday and he would spend equal time at each police station on that day.

“A unique aspect of this scheme is that if a complainant/petitioner is not satisfied with investigation/inquiry or the manner in which investigation is being done by the IO, then he can raise objections with the SHO and the GO deputed there. If he is still not satisfied, he can directly approach the DCP present there and finally, the CP to present his case,” asserts Agrawal.

Schedule for police station visit

  • First Saturday of every month: Police Division No. 1, Division No. 2, Division No. 3 Division No. 4, Division No. 5, Division No. 8, Model Town, Traffic Wing, Police Lines, CAW Cell and Women police station.
