Ludhiana, November 23

Inderjeet Singh Gola, owner of the Amarson Polymers factory which collapsed on Monday killing 13 persons, was today produced before the court that remanded him in one-day police custody.

Gola had escaped arrest since Monday. He was arrested from his home yesterday.

Police Commissioner RN Dhoke said: “Gola’s remand was required because the police had to recover several documents pertaining to the factory. Gola’s interrogation would also clear about the type of chemicals stored inside the factory.”

Division No. 2 SHO Gurvinder Singh said the police would interrogate Gola as to whether the factory had permission to store chemicals or their quantity was as per the norms. “We have initiated a probe into the case and evidence is being collected to take the case to its logical conclusion,” he added.

Continuing fire hampers rescue operations

Despite four days having passed since the incident happened, flames could be seen occasionally erupting in the debris. Even the NDRF officials felt that they had to tread cautiously in view of continuing fire caused by chemicals. The possibility of another chemical blast always remains under such circumstances, they said.

Three firemen, Sukhdev, Manpreet and Manohar Lal, are yet to be traced in the debris.
