To clear the backlog of heinous crime lying untraced, mainly the ‘blind’ murders, Gagan Ajit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), has sought a report from the SHOs concerned in this regard.

An inquiry into the backlog has been hanging fire for long.

Pertinently, in the past few days, the city police have solved several cases within hours of occurrence, such as the carjacking of an SUV from Delhi-based persons, Rs 10 extortion call to hosiery trader, busting of a gang involved in two major robberies to the tune of several lakhs and the murder of a financier in Dugri, etc.

Sources said the police now wanted to shift the focus on to ‘blind’ murders. The foremost challenge before the police is to solve the murder of Shree Hindu Takht leader Amit Sharma on January 14. Since the killers in the case are being linked to the killers of RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja and the murder of Dera Sacha Sauda followers, the police have been working on several theories, but have remained clueless so far.

Another challenge is to solve the murder reported on April 4, 2016, of Mata Chand Kaur (88), wife of Namdhari leader late Satguru Jagjit Singh, who was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants in Bhaini Sahib. Though the case is with the CBI, the police are also trying their hands at it.

Gagan Ajit Singh, DCP (Crime), said, “I have sought a status report on all blind murders and have strictly asked the SHOs concerned to expedite the probe, so that the culprits can be put behind the bars. Special teams will be formed to crack the cases.”
