Rotary Club launches drive against drugs

Mandi Ahmedgarh: The Rotary Club, Ahmedgarh, passed a new resolution to save future generations from falling prey to drugs. The outfit launched a movement to spread awareness against drug menace among students of various schools. The members also planted saplings at public places.

The Rotary Club, Ahmedgarh, passed a new resolution to save future generations from falling prey to drugs. The outfit launched a movement to spread awareness against drug menace among students of various schools. The members also planted saplings at public places.

The event kicked off at the Victoria Public Senior Secondary School, Lehra. Senior vice-president Surinder Pal Sofat presided over an inaugural session and Sanjay Dhand, chairman, Victoria College for Women, Dehliz Road, was a chief guest.

Secretary Dr Ravinder Sharma said activists of the Rotary Club led by president Dr Vikas Raj has resolved to launch coordinated movement for spreading awareness about causes and consequences of social evils, including drug addiction, environmental degradation, gender biasness and illiteracy.

Speakers, including assistant governor Avtar Krishan Sharma, SP Sofat, principal Sandeep Sharma, chairman Sanjay Dhand, principal Bipan Sethi, Ajay Jain and former president Lalit Kaura said office bearers and activists of social organisations should act as eyes and ears of the administration.

“While government agencies have already tried to reach masses through civic bodies for identification and rehabilitation of addicts, we have commenced from students who need immediate protection from drug nuisance,” said Sofat. He said students will be provided free saplings to plant on their birthdays.
