Ludhiana, June 22

Applications for Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships Schemes have been invited from students with disabilities. While giving reference from the letter received from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Agrawal said under this scheme students with disabilities could file their applications online.

He said the last date for filing applications for pre-matric scholarship is September 30 and that for post-matric October 31. The date for renewal of scholarship is July 30.

The objectives of the schemes are to provide financial assistance to the parents of students with disabilities for studying in the pre-matric level and post-matric level. The financial assistance includes scholarship, book grant, escort/reader allowance, etc.

This scheme is helpful to support parents of students with disabilities for education of their wards studying in Class IX and X onwards, so the incidence of dropout, especially in the transition from the elementary to the secondary stage is minimised.

The scheme will improve participation of students with disabilities in Class IX and X and at the post-matric stage of education. Besides, it will support students to study further in order to prepare themselves to earn their livelihood and find a dignified place for themselves in society, as they face several barriers physical, financial, psychological and mental in pursuing studies and living with dignity. At times, such students are deprived of harnessing their latent skills and thereby miss opportunity.

Agrawal appealed to the parents of students with disabilities to get benefited under the scheme.
