As Naidu faces eviction from riverside home, TDP cries ‘vendetta’

TDP has accused Andhra government of political vendetta as the party president N. Chandrababu Naidu faces a possible eviction from his riverside house.

Months after his party’s big loss in the crucial state assembly elections, Naidu now faces the prospect of his house— Praja Vedika —being demolished.

Naidu has been staying in the house—which was previously called “Undavalli House”—on the banks of Krishna River since 2016, since Andhra Pradesh shifted its administration to Amaravati from Hyderabad.

The house is not a government property, but was acquired from a businessman to serve as the chief minister’s residence.

The issue came to light after the ruling YSR Congress’ legislator Alla Ramakrishna Reddy on Tuesday said that Naidu would be evicted from his residence.

Reacting strongly on behalf of the party, TDP leader P. Keshav claims that the possible eviction is the beginning of “vindictive politics” by the new government, especially since the property is a subject of court dispute.

The former chief minister enjoys the rank of a cabinet minister on account of being the leader of opposition. TDP has 23 MLAs in the 175-member Assembly.

Naidu had recently written a letter to the government asking for permission to stay on at “Praja Vedika”.

There is an ongoing legal battle for demolishing all structures in the vicinity of the Krishna River, including Naidu’s house.

The YSR Congress Party has maintained that all demolitions will be done according to River Conservancy Act, 1884.

Responding to the accusation of “political vendetta”, YSRCP leader and Mangalgiri Legislator Ramakrishna Reddy, who defeated Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh, has maintained that Naidu would be evicted “as per the legal process”.

Reddy has also been appointed as chairman of the AP State Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA)—the key government body looking after the capital region's development.

The ruling party has accused the former chief minister of staying in an illegal house.

Party leaders also said Naidu did not bother purchasing property in the new capital of Telengana, even though he had made “tall claims” about developing Amravati as a world-class city.
