A full-blown Twitter war has broken out between the Congress and the BJP over RTI revelations that a cooperative bank headed by the BJp chief Amit Shah converted old cash into new in record time during the note ban era.

The Twitter war was triggered by the Congress president Rahul Gandhi when he floated a Twitter hashtag #ShahZyadaKhaGaya posting the following supporting message: “Congratulations Amit Shah ji, Director, Ahmedabad Dist. Cooperative Bank, on your bank winning 1st prize in the conversion of old notes to new race. 750 Cr in 5 days! Millions of Indians whose lives were destroyed by Demonetisation, salute your achievement. #ShahZyadaKhaGaya.”

The Twitter hastag started trending within minutes.

But the BJP was quick to respond with its IT cell head Amit Malviya tweeting on the issue, sending out a series of tweets clarifying that the deposits were from farmers and common bank depositors. And then the hastga#Desperateliesofcongress started trending.

Gandhi’s tweet also followed the blog by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who spoke of how jehadis and separatists and Maoist insurgents supported by sections in civilian society were compromising human rights in India.

Earlier in the day, Congress media head Randeep Surjewala held an unscheduled press conference to target Shah for what the Congress calls a “demonetisation scam”.
