Pre-monsoon thunderstorm activity is likely to commence over parts of northwest India from Tuesday, June 26, and the southwest monsoon can be expected over parts of northwest, including Delhi, between June 29 and July 1.

Amid Mumbai getting battered by heavy showers, the monsoon in the past 24 hours advanced into parts of north Arabian Sea, Saurashtra and parts of the Gujarat region and Maharashtra, parts of West Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and remaining parts of Assam and Meghalaya, said the IMD.

The conditions are becoming favourable for its further advance into more parts of north Arabian Sea, Gujarat, remaining parts of Maharashtra; more parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh; remaining parts of Odisha, West Bengal and some parts of Jharkhand and Bihar during the next 24 hours.

It is also expected to arrive over parts of Uttar Pradesh in the subsequent 24 hours. In view of the revival of southwest monsoon, rough to very rough sea conditions are likely along the west and east coasts of India, around the islands as well as over north central parts of Arabian Sea.

Fishermen are advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea over these areas.

On Sunday, heat wave conditions were observed at some places over east Uttar Pradesh and in pockets of West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.
