Mumbai, April 26

A special court set up under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has ordered the attachment of properties owned by former actress Mamta Kulkarni who is wanted in a narcotics case.

Judge H M Patwardhan of the special NDPS court at Thane ordered the attachment of three flats owned by the actress at Sky Enclave society in Mumbai’s Versova after she and her husband, Vicky Goswami did not appear before the court.

According to reports here, the three flats are worth around Rs 20 crore.

Last year, both Kulkarni and Goswami were declared proclaimed offenders by the court.

According to the police, both Kulkarni and Goswami were wanted for illegally manufacturing and exporting Ephedrine and party drug methamphetamine to various countries, including the US. The two along with three other accused had allegedly contracted a pharmaceutical company called Avon Lifesciences Ltd in Solapur to manufacture the party drug.

The Kenya-based Kulkarni-Goswami duo had set up a meeting of their associates in Mumbai with potential importers, according to the chargesheet filed in the case.

According to police Goswami, 53, was earlier sentenced to 25 years by the United Arab Emirates in 1997 for smuggling Mandrax but was released in November 2012 after a deal with the authorities there.
