UN agency to issue special Diwali stamp

United Nations: The UN postal agency will issue special stamps here next month to commemorate Diwali. The UN Postal Administration will issue a New York special event sheet on October 19 to commemorate the festival.



United Nations: The UN postal agency will issue special stamps here next month to commemorate Diwali. The UN Postal Administration will issue a New York special event sheet on October 19 to commemorate the festival. The sheet, in denomination of $1.15, contains 10 stamps and tabs featuring festive lights and symbolic 'diyas'. The sheet background features the UN Headquarters building illuminated with “Happy Diwali” message. PTI

India, UK cricket teams unveil Khadi poppy    

London: The Indian and England cricket teams have united to recognise the role of Indian soldiers during World War-I as part of a British armed forces charity's movement, with the two squad captains, Virat Kohli and Joe Root, wearing a unique poppy made out of Khadi. Initiated by Indian-origin peer Lord Jitesh Gadhia and commissioned especially by the Royal British Legion charity to mark the Centenary of the end of the war, the red cloth poppy is identical to the traditional British symbol of remembrance of the war dead. No cheap liquor for obese Coast Guard staff         

New Delhi: Rakesh Pal, commander of the Indian Coast Guard's northwest region covering Gujarat, said on Saturday that an order has been issued to deny subsidised liquor to overweight and obese personnel. Pal said the move will be applicable to personnel, irrespective of their ranks, who have been told by the medical board to reduce weight. He said alcohol has been observed to be a major factor behind obesity and the decision was taken to tackle the problem as several such personnel could not be posted at sea. The order applies to the northwest unit covering Gujarat, which is a dry state. PTI
