In a joint operation by officials of the BSF and the STF, at least 9.3 kg of heroin worth about Rs 47 crore in the International market was seized near the border outpost GG II in the Fazilka sector this morning.

TR Meena, DIG, BSF, and Sandeep Kumar, AIG, STF, said following a tip-off, officials of the 96 battalion led by Commandant Naresh Kumar launched a search near the border across the barbed fencing and recovered 10 packets of heroin wrapped in a yellow tape, weighing 9.3 kg.

The officials said the heroin was concealed in the agricultural field of a farmer, Surat Singh. The police were investigating the matter and Surat Singh, who was not present at the site at the time of recovery, would be questioned about the presence of the contraband in his field.

Sources said the consignment was pushed into the Indian territory from Pakistan side a couple of days back. Earlier, four packets of heroin were recovered from the land of another farmer Sadhu Singh in the same area.
