Anganwadi workers on Sunday took their protest seeking better wages to the doorsteps of MLAs. At some places, they even began a hunger strike by pitching in tents in front of legislators’ residences.

In Muktsar district, workers began their protest outside Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal’s residence after giving the slip to the police. Notably, protesters are never allowed to enter Badal village, which is the native village of former CM Parkash Singh Badal.

Meanwhile, anganwadi workers also reached in front of the residence of Gidderbaha MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring in Muktsar town, where they began a hunger strike by putting up a tent. Similarly, they lodged a protest outside the residence of Balluana MLA Nathu Ram in Malout town.

Hargobind Kaur, president, All Punjab Anganwari Employees’ Union, said, “We are lodging a protest against the poor wages and demanding that the state government should emulate Haryana government’s policy and increase allowances for anganwari workers and helpers.”

Abohar: Members of the Punjab unit of the All-India Anganwadi Workers Union from different segments gheraoed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunil Jakhar’s house in Panjkosi, about 15 km from here, on Sunday.

The police did not allow them to enter Jakhar’s ancestral house and all gates were shut as the protesters marched towards the palatial complex. The protesters, wearing black clothes, waved black flags and raised slogans against the state government. They staged a dharna and observed fast from 10 am to 2 pm.

Moga: Workers and helpers staged a protest outside the residence of Congress MLA Dr Harjot Kamal at Ajitwal in the district. The protest was led by block president of the union, Kirandip Kaur Chuhar Chak.
