Congress leader Harjinder Singh, also a member of the District Grievance Redressal Committee of Sangrur, alleged that “chitta” and other drugs are being sold openly in Gharachon village.

“I request all senior officers to take a quick action as ‘chitta’ and other drugs are being sold in our village. These are ruining the lives of youngsters,” Harjinder said during the first meeting of the committee on Tuesday.

Surprised by the serious allegations of the ruling party representative, Sangrur SSP Sandeep Garg said no such complaint was pending with them. The SSP also asked Harjinder Singh to lodge a complaint on 181 if there was any drug smuggling in his village and immediate action would be taken.

“I heard about the drug allegations. Our government has broken the supply line of drugs in the state. But we need the support of the residents and they should inform the police if anyone is selling drugs in their area. I have directed the SSP to take an immediate action,” said state Cabinet Minister Razia Sultana.

AAP MLA boycotts meet

Aam Aadmi Party Sunam MLA Aman Arora alleged that despite repeated claims, the Punjab Government had failed to control the drug menace in the state. Tempers ran high during the meeting when Arora alleged that the food and civil supply officers were harassing the beneficiaries of the Atta-Dal scheme for smart cards. However, after failing to get a proper hearing, Arora and his supporters boycotted the meeting and raised slogans against the Punjab Government.
