HC transfers probe to IPS-rank officer

Investigation into a case in which a mother allegedly administered sleeping pills to her two children and mother-in-law before leaving with a man after taking cash and gold ornaments has been transferred from the Dasuya police to the Bureau of Investigation.

Directing the IPS-rank officer to probe the matter, the Punjab and Haryana High Court asserted that the cops had taken the investigation lightly. The order came after the 60-year-old mother-in-law approached the High Court for transferring the investigation of the theft case registered at the Dasuya police station on November 9, 2017, under Section 380 of the IPC to “some IPS officer” or a special investigation team.

Taking up the matter, Justice Kuldip Singh asserted a perusal of the FIR showed the petitioner-complainant had alleged that her son had gone abroad, but his wife and two children were residing with her. The petitioner said the daughter-in-law had illicit relations with a man. On the night of October 17, 2017, she went away with the man leaving behind her children with the petitioner.

It was alleged that checking revealed Rs 50,000 and gold ornaments of the petitioner were missing.
