Lashing out at the BJP and AAP for terming him an “outsider”, Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar said he did not need a residence in the constituency to prove himself as a son of the soil, but needed space in the hearts of the residents.

He held a number of meetings with party workers at Sujanpur, Bhoa, Gurdaspur and Fatehgarh Churian.

Trying to strike an emotional chord with locals, he said, “I am touched and overwhelmed at the amount of love and affection you have showered at me.”

“I challenge the BJP and AAP candidates to hold a debate with me on the problems of the border constituency. The BJP has done precious little to mitigate the sufferings of the common man. First demonetisation robbed the people of their own money and later they were robbed by the price rise. The imposition of GST is the proverbial last nail in the coffin,” he said.

The PPCCpresident added that the Congress government in the state had already set the momentum for peace and progress. “Six months is not a long period to judge anybody’s performance, but still the historic measures the government has taken are unparalleled,” he added.
