The state government today announced free dialysis for all categories of kidney patients in all Civil Hospitals and government medical colleges of the state.

The announcement was made in the Assembly during the last day of the Budget Session. Health Minister Brahm Mohindra said patients could avail themselves of free dialysis from today itself.

The government has earmarked Rs 1 crore exclusively for this scheme. Last year, 11,596 dialysis procedures were conducted in the state-run hospitals.

“We have dialysis units operational in all 22 district hospitals and three state-run medical colleges – Patiala, Amritsar and Faridkot. Besides, such units are also installed at the sub-division hospitals at Dasuya, Abohar and Batala,” said Mohindra.
