Ludhiana, December 20

The police today claimed to have arrested another person from Delhi in the immolation case of a 17-year-old girl. Eight persons allegedly set the victim afire at her house at Prem Nagar in Dhandari on December 4. The police said the arrested accused, Aabid, was a co-accused in the case. The police have also involved a key witness in the investigations.

Police Commissioner Parmod Ban said Aabid met the victim during the time of her abduction from October 25 to 27. He said Aabid had made some startling revelations in the immolation case. Aabid, a native of Bihar, was residing in the city. He had been hiding in Delhi for the past few days. “During investigation, we found that the witness spoke to the girl thrice over the phone from October 25 to 27,” said Ban. He said no one had been given a clean chit in the case and the matter was being investigated from all angles. Ban said all eight accused, who were earlier named in the case, had been arrested.

“The probe is under process and we will reveal the details of the case soon,” he said. Ban said a special investigation team (SIT) had been constituted to verify the new facts.

The SIT comprises Parmjeet Singh Pannu, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rupinder Kaur, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), south, Ramandeep Singh, ACP, Atam Nagar, Surinder Singh, SHO, Focal Point, Rajan and Parminder Singh, in charge CIA.
