Ludhiana, June 23
An undertrial was injured after he was allegedly attacked by some inmates at the Ludhiana central jail, police said on Saturday.
Jagjit Singh, lodged in the jail in connection with the Balachaur sacrilege incident, was allegedly attacked by five prisoners, including two gangsters, who barged into his barrack on Friday night, they said.
He was beaten up by an iron pipe by the inmates, police said, adding that Singh’s leg was broken and he also received several injuries.
Singh was admitted to a local civil hospital under security cover where his treatment is under way. His condition is said to be stable.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Dharm Pal said that after receiving the information, a team of the Ludhiana police went to the central jail for investigation.
However, the police had not received any complaint from the jail authorities and thus, no case had been registered so far, Pal said. PTI
