AMRITSAR: The Indian Embassy in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku organised a special programme dedicated to the 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak, which was attended by SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal on Sunday.



Amritsar: The Indian Embassy in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku organised a special programme dedicated to the 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak, which was attended by SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal on Sunday. Longowal said with the support of the local government and devotees, efforts would be made to build a gurdwara dedicated to Guru Nanak at Baku. He said embassy officials had assured to take up the matter with the officials concerned to pave the way for providing requisite land for the gurdwara. TNS

Pakistani boat found near border

Ferozepur: The BSF on Sunday recovered another Pakistani wooden boat (berra) from the Sutlej near the Old Mohhamadiwala border outpost in this sector. 

As per sources, jawans of the 136 battalion of the BSF deputed near the border outpost observed some suspicious movement in the Sutlej during the wee hours of Sunday. Later, they found a wooden vessel coming from the Pakistan side. The vessel is around 12-15 feet long and is in a bad shape. Last year, two similar Pakistani vessels were recovered. OC

WB-funded water project sanctioned

Fatehgarh Sahib: To ensure the supply of safe drinking water to residents of 92 villages of the district, a World Bank-funded canal-based drinking water project worth Rs 111.53 crore has been sanctioned and the work will start soon, said Jaspreet Singh, ADC while presiding over a meeting of officials here on Sunday. He said various other projects to solve problems related to the water supply in the district would also be launched soon. OC

Three booked for Rs 43-lakh fraud

Muktsar: The Muktsar police have booked three persons for allegedly duping a local doctor’s wife of Rs 43 lakh. The accused have been identified as  Rachhpal Singh, Jagsir Singh and Raghbir Singh. The FIR stated that the accused had showed a piece of land to Usha Rani. The Trio transferred the ownership of land located somewhere else. TNS 

One held with 400 habit-forming tablets   

Sangrur: The Cheema police have confiscated 400 habit-forming tablets and arrested a person. “Acting on a tip-off, we have arrested Balvir Singh from Beer Kalan to Jharo road. We recovered 400 habit-forming tablets from the possession of the accused,” said ASI Sukhwinder Singh. TNS 

Two booked for rice theft   

Sangrur: The police have registered a case against two persons after 29 quintals of rice went missing from a godown located at Meerheri village. “On the complaint of Vinod Mittal, we have registered a case against Subeg Singh and Ram kumar related to the theft of 29 quintals of rice,” said Assitant Sub-Inspector Sanjeev Kumar. TNS 

Bassi Pathana gets passport seva kendra   

Fatehgarh Sahib: MP Harinder Singh Khalsa, along with Bassi Pathana MLA Gurpreet Singh GP, inaugurated a Passport Seva Kendra at the post office Bassi Pathana yesterday. As a result, residents of the district and nearby areas would no longer need to travel to Chandigarh. OC
