Kolkata, November 24

Sundar Washington produced an all-round show to help India cruise to a four-wicket win over Bangladesh, their third win in as many matches, and book a berth in the final of U-19 Tri-series One-day tournament.

Chasing a modest 223, India were given a flying start by openers Rishabh Pant (51) and Ishan Kishan (24). They had  gathered 67 runs for the first wicket when Bangladesh triggered a collapse with a run-out of Kishan.

From 67/0, India were reduced to 116/4 in 21.2 overs but Sundar (50) and Amandeep Khare (41) held the innings together with a 69-run partnership. Eventually, India knocked off the required runs with nine balls and four wickets to spare. “I knew there was no extraordinary thing needed and I had to bat normally. I was confident and went in with a positive mindset,”  said Sundar.

Sundar, who bowls off-spin also,  took  two wickets from his six overs to restrict Bangladesh to 222/7 in 50 overs.  India now have 13 points from three matches while Bangladesh have five points by virtue of a win.  In their last league match tomorrow, Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan.

Brief scores: Bangladesh U-19: 222/7 in 50 overs (MH Miraz 87; Washington 2/25); India U-19: 223/6 in 48.3 overs (R Pant 51, Washington 50; M Hasan 2/50)  — PTI
