Extension of villages

The Government of Madras have issued a resolution on the question of extension of towns and villages, inviting the attention of local bodies to the necessity of adopting extension plans before permitting houses to be built on vacant sites indiscriminately without reference to road, drainage, ventilation and sanitary conveniences. Not only in Madras but in other provinces of India people desiring to build houses come under no order or system and houses are built in such a manner which does not secure the advantages of a well-planned extensions. Under these circumstances it is the duty of local bodies to find out whether there is any need for the extension of a village or town.
