Is a Spilt Inevitable?

We have gone through the Bengalee’s article under the heading “A Split Inevitable”, with the greatest possible care. The article clearly bears on it the impress of the Roman hand of its venerable editor, and no man who has any sense of Mr Banerjea’s commanding position in the public life of the country and of his magnificent contribution to the work of nation-building in India can fail to treat with, the utmost respect everything that emanates from him. But we must confess we do not find anything in the article except a series of assumptions, without any attempt to prove them. To begin with we have the statement that “Mrs Besant will largely dominate the meetings of the Special session of the Congress.” We are not at all certain that this will be the case. She was unable to have things her way at Madras, and was hooted at by a minority. She could only preserve the peace by maintaining silence.
