PAK ADVANCE HALTED IN CHHAMB SECTOR



NEW DELHI, September 3 (PTI) INDIAN troops have halted the advance of the Pakistani forces in the Chhamb sector where they made a massive attack on Wednesday in brigade strength with the support of 70 tanks and air cover and had penetrated five to six miles deep into Indian territory. In an air battle in the Akhnoor-Chhamb area this morning, the Indian air and ground forces destroyed two American F-86 Sabre jets. There was no loss to I.A.F. In the Tithwal sector and in the Uri-Poonch bulge, Indian forces have consolidated their positions and mace further advances. In the Tithwal sector, Indian troops have moved further from Pir Sahiba, which they captured nine days ago, and are now overlooking the strategic road in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir linking up Muzarrabad headquarters of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, with Kel. They have generated two miles in this sector and are 13 to 14 miles from Muzaffarabad as the crow flies. Exchange of artillery fie took place in this sector on August 28 and again on August 31. Two Pakistan vehicles were blown up.
