Bathinda, March 22

Notorious gangster Navdeep Singh Chatha has been shifted from the Central Jail, Bathinda, to the Ferozepur Central Jail. He was in judicial custody for the past one and a half year after his arrest by the CIA-2 wing of the Bathinda police.

Though the jail authorities termed it a routine move, according to sources, the jail and local police received inputs regarding the possibility of a clash inside the Bathinda jail.

The jail staff did not want to take any chance. As Chatha was an active member of the Gurpreet Sekhon-Vicky Gounder gang, he was shifted to Ferozepur.

A few weeks ago, the Bathinda police had taken Chatha on production warrant for three days and grilled him regarding hideouts and links of gangsters.

Chatha was arrested by the Bathinda police on October 16, 2016 from Dabwali near the Punjab-Haryana border. He was involved in many criminal cases. The police found important information from his i-Phone. Chatha had links in Haryana and Rajasthan. Before his arrest, he reportedly provided five star shelter to criminals in different towns of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

Police sources said he had ties with gangster Gurpreet Sekhon. When he was arrested one and a half year ago, he admitted to having made arrangements for hideouts of other gangsters.

The police had also found a large number of voice messages of gangsters from his phone. SS Sahota, superintendent of the Bathinda jail, confirmed the development, but didn’t comment any further.
