Mohali: Seven new cases of dengue and 25 suspected cases were reported from the district on Sunday. With this, the count has touched 3,909. While 2,260 cases were reported last month, the current month has seen 1,278 cases. As many as 37 suspected dengue deaths have been recorded in the district so far. TNS

Biker flees with mobile phone

Chandigarh: A motorcycle-borne miscreant snatched a mobile phone from a woman in Sector 40. According to the police, the suspect snatched the mobile on November 27. A case was registered at the Sector 39 police station. TNS

Woman booked for cheating

Chandigarh: The UT police have booked a woman for cheating. Complainant Rajnish Jain, a resident of Mohali, reported that the suspect, a resident of Sector 19, cheated him by “denying the receipt” of Rs1 crore for selling a booth in Sector 19. A case has been registered under Section 420 of the IPC at the Sector 19 police station. TNS 

Temple priest’s car stolen

Mohali: An unidentified masked man stole a luxury sedan of a priest from the parking of a temple in Phase 3-A on Saturday night. In his complaint to the police, the Vaishno Devi temple priest, Sohan Lal, stated that he had parked his Honda City in the parking lot on Saturday evening. When he returned on Sunday morning, the car was missing. The CCTV footage installed near the temple captured a masked man opening the door of the vehicle and driving it away in a matter of minutes. The miscreant approached the car while talking to someone on the phone. A case of theft was registered at the Mataur police station on Sunday. TNS

Grocery shop burgled

Mohali: Miscreants stole Rs2.30 lakh, dry fruits and groceries from a department store in Sector 79 on Saturday night. On the complaint of the shop owner, Mandeep Singh, a case of theft has been registered at the Sohana police station. The police are scanning the CCTV footage of the area. TNS

Study fair on December 4

Chandigarh: The British Council, the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations, is hosting its fourth edition of the 'Study UK Virtual Fair' on December 4. The fair will be a one-stop platform for attendees to interact with the representatives of several universities and gather insights on the study opportunities in the UK, including courses, universities and scholarship offers, along with application processes and eligibility criteria. The fair would also provide information on student life in the UK, housing and career prospects. TNS

Chandigarh: The International Vaish Federation, Punjab, conferred OP Jindal Awards on 10 promising administrative officers of Vaish community during a programme at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute in Sector 26 here on Sunday. Parveen Gupta, additional chief secretary to the Government of Delhi, was the chief guest at the event. TNS

Chandigarh: Sanjeev Sethi’s fifth book of poems, Hesitancies, was released here on Sunday. His books have been published in more than 30 countries so far. His poems have been featured in over 350 magazines, anthologies and online literary sites. Sethi is a joint winner of Full Fat Collection Competition-Deux organised by The Hedgehog Poetry Press UK.
