Biker hit by car, dies

A 43-year-old man was killed after the bike he was riding was reportedly hit by a car on the Dera Bassi railway overbridge near DAV School here today.

The deceased has been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Mohali district. The police said the incident occurred in the morning when the victim was heading towards the Dera Bassi side on his bike for his job. When he reached near DAV School, a car coming from the Chandigarh side reportedly hit the victim’s bike. The victim sustained injuries and was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, where doctors declared him brought dead. The police have registered a case against the car driver, Pardeep Rana, a resident of Mubarikpur village. 

The police said Sukhwinder Singh used to work in a factory at the focal point in Dera Bassi. The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after an autopsy.
