Chandigarh, June 28

Skipper Bhagmender claimed seven wickets as Chandigarh bundled out Fazilka for 121 runs in their second essay to register an innings and 135-run win on the second and final day of their Punjab Inter-District U-23 Championship match at the Sector 16 Stadium here on Friday.

Resuming the day at 49/2, Fazilka batsmen failed to put up a fight and lost wickets at regular intervals to hand the hosts a comfortable win.

Pawan Kumar, who was unbeaten on nine yesterday, and Anmol Wadhwa, who was not out on seven, offered some resistance to the Chandigarh attack, but with Bhagmender bringing an end to the 36-run partnership between the two, Fazilka middle order crumbled — the visitors losing their remaining seven wickets for just 47 runs.

Kumar was cleaned up by Bhagmender on 15, while Wadhwa fell to Amit Shukla after scoring a patient 42. Bhagmender returned with figures of 7/25, while Shukla took 3/26.

Earlier, in reply to Chandigarh’s 311/7, Fazilka were all out for 55 runs in their first innings.

Amritsar crush Moga

At Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar, Sumit Sharma claimed a fifer as the hosts defeated Moga by and innings and 124 runs.

Asked to follow on, Moga in their second innings could only manage 124 runs as Sharma led attack did not all them to breathe freely. Sharma claimed 5/25, while Dipanshu Chadha (2/17) and skipper Abhishek Sharma (2/41) took two wickets each.

Diljot Singh showed some appetite for the fight as he mustered 55 runs off 64 balls, but the youngster did not get enough support from the other end.

Amritsar, on Thursday, had bundled out Moga for 66 runs after declaring their first innings closed on 435/5.

Jalandhar on top

Jalandhar, meanwhile, settled for a draw against visitors Bathinda at the Burlton Park. Having scored 608/5 in the allotted 95 overs on the opening day, the hosts restricted Bathinda to 110 runs in their first innings to gain a massive 498-run lead. However, Jalandhar skipper Mansab Gill did not enforce the follow and decided to give his batters some more time in the middle.

In their second innings, Jalandhar were batting on 300/7 when the match ended. Gaurav Chaudhary hammered a 61-ball 99, while Prerit Dutta made 65 off 49 balls.
