Non-teaching Class A and Class B employees of Punjabi University are at loggerheads with the office of the Controller of Examinations (CoE). Levying allegations of ill-treatment of the non-teaching staff in the examination department, the employees today shot off a letter to the Vice-Chancellor in this regard.

Dr Balwinder Singh Tiwana, Controller of Examinations, termed the allegations baseless, saying that “all directions issued to the non-teaching staff were for making them work in the interests of students and for the smooth functioning of the department”.

The non-teaching employees said they were facing “mental trouble” and were not able to function in such an environment. They also threatened to hold a protest.

President of the A-Class Officers’ Association, Non-teaching Group, Dr Dalbir Singh Randhawa, said the office of the the Controller of Examinations had drafted new rules, directing the officials to mark their attendance at his office. “We had written to the Vice-Chancellor demanding action on a number of important matters. Some of our employees are being ill-treated. Now, assistant registrars and deputy registrars have also been directed to mark their attendance at the Controller’s office,” Dr Randhawa said.

“Promotions of a number of employees are pending, which should be addressed at the earliest,” he said.

After a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, the employees decided to postpone their protest.
