Power outages in Kansal: Residents at receiving end

Residents are upset over long power cuts in Kansal these days. They said the duration of power outages in their area was four to five hours a day on an average.

“These are not scheduled power cuts. These outages occur due to one or the other problem either in electricity wires or transformers. The area witness minimum four to five hours power cut daily and we all are at the receiving end in this sultry weather,” said Gurpreet Singh, a Kansal resident.

Echoing similar views, Iqbal Singh, the area councillor said there was no fixed timing of power outages.

“Sometimes there in no power in morning hours while we also witness cuts during midnights. We are virtually spending sleepless nights of late,” added the councillor.

“We have complained to officials concerned several times. They are always ready with one or the other excuse,” rued residents.

“Overloading is one of the main problems in the area.

Transformers installed here cannot bear the load. These transformers and old electricity wires need to be replaced immediately,” said Iqbal.

“At several places, electricity cables can be seen lying on the ground, which is dangerous for humans and animals too,” he added.

When contacted, an official of the Power Department admitted that some transformers in the area were overloaded.

“We always try to fix problems as soon as possible. Yes, power outages are random due to several problems here,” said the official on condition of anonymity.
