Haryana’s Suhana wins national TT title

CHANDIGARH:Haryana’s Suhana Saini defeated Taneesha Kotecha of Maharashtra to win the girls’ sub-junior title on the concluding day of the UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships (North Zone) in Sonepat today.

Haryana’s Suhana Saini defeated Taneesha Kotecha of Maharashtra to win the girls’ sub-junior title on the concluding day of the UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships (North Zone) in Sonepat today.

Suhana claimed the title by registering a 12-10 8-11 11-3 11-9 13-11 victory over Taneesha. Earlier, she defeated Nilishia Sarkar of West Bengal 11-8 11-9 11-5 11-9. Taneesha had defeated Sneha Bhowmick 15-13 11-9 11-7 8-11 11-9.

Aadarsh Om Chetri of Delhi beat Preyesh Raj Suresh of Tamil Nadu 11-9 11-5 12-10 13-11 to win the boys’ sub-junior trophy. Earlier, he defeated Sarth Mishra 11-5 11-5 15-13 13-11, while Raj ousted Divyansh Srivastava 11-9 11-6 6-11 11-9 8-11 13-11.

In the boys’ cadet final, Uttar Pradesh’s Umesh Kumar emerged the winner after he defeated Dhruv Shah of Maharashtra 4-1, while Diya Bramhachary of West Bengal downed state-mate Nandina Saha 4-2 for the cadet girls’ crown.

Dhruv looked like putting up a fight when he won the fourth game but Umesh shut him out in the next game itself to lift the trophy 11-6 11-9 11-6 7-11 11-9. Meanwhile, Divya won 11-9 5-11 11-9 8-11 11-5 13-11 to take home her maiden crown.

Earlier, in semis, Umesh had it easy against PSPBA’s Divyaj Rajkhowa Roy, but Dhruv Shah of Maharashtra struggled a bit before emerging winner in the second semifinal against Kshetrimayun Singh of PSPBA. In the girls’ category, West Bengal’s Nandini defeated Jennifer Varghese of Maharashtra and Divya logged an easy win against M Hansini of West Bengal.
