Dozens of youth were, allegedly, duped by an immigration office at Santemajra village on Kharar-Landran road on the pretext of sending them abroad.

The victims, including Paras Verma, Mohinder Pal, Mandeep Singh, Rohit, Gurmel Singh, Jaswinder Singh, among others said they had read an advertisement posted by the firm on Facebook and approached it.

The firm owners promised them a good job in Kuwait. The victims submitted their passports and also paid some amount ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 80,000 each to the firm.

They alleged that the tickets given to some of them were found to be fake. Gurmukh Singh of Jalandhar and one of his associates said when they reached to airport with tickets and visas issued by the agency, the authorities told them that both tickets and visa are fake.

He said they were unable to contact the firm owners as their mobiles were switched off. When they reached the office on Monday it was found locked. They have lodged a complaint about the fraud to the police and demanded action in this regard.

Kharar Sadar police station SHO Amandeep Singh, said the police would take action after investigating the matter. Meanwhile, Harminder Singh Mavi, president, Panchayat Union Punjab, has urged the district administration to audit all immigration firms operating in this area and action should be taken who are doing this business illegally.
