The Banur police are in search for a 23-year-old youth who reportedly went missing more than a month ago.

The youth’s family said he was addicted to drugs. The police said the family had accused another youth Rahul Kumar (24), a resident of Manakpur village, of kidnapping their son for drugs.

Mother of the victim said her son went to meet his friend in the evening on June 14 and did not return home. “My son went missing on June 14. He has been consuming drugs supplied by Rahul Kumar for more than a year, who had also given a pistol to my son later.”

She said she was diabetic while her husband was a cab driver and her other son’s mental condition was not stable.

She said she had a word with the victim after he left home. “We kept on contacting him on his phone. Initially, he answered our calls, one day he told me that he could not return home due to the drugs. Since then, his phone remained switched-off and there had been no trace of him.”

The woman said they admitted him to a drug de-addiction centre in October last year. “We admitted him to a drug de-addiction centre in October last year and tried to keep him away from bad company. But Rahul again contacted him after he returned and my son resumed consuming drugs.”

Rajpura DSP Krishan Kumar Panthey said: “We are trying to find both the youths and have sent a number of teams to search for them at various locations. We are sure we will be able to track them in a few days.”

Panthey added: “The families should not shy away from sharing information about their children addicted to drugs. We have assured people that we will keep their information safe and help them get the best treatment.”

Banur SHO Sukhdeep Singh said the police have registered a case against Rahul Kumar under Sections 365 (Kidnapping), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC and various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.
