Panchkula, July 17

Two persons, who were trying to take a selfie in the Kaushalya near Pinjore around 9 am here, had a miraculous escape after they were trapped in the river due to a sudden increase in the water level following heavy rains in the hills. The duo was saved by a NDRF team.

They have been identified as Nand Kishore and Sikandar, both residents of Kalka. The victims, who remained stranded in the river for around four hours, failed to find a way to come out of it.

After receiving information, PCR van in-charge Tajinder Singh reached the spot with his team. SPO Rajiv Sharma jumped into the river to help the duo. Meanwhile, a team of the fire brigade also reached there.

Fire brigade personnel and two cops failed to reach near the victims with the help of a rope. Later, they decided to approach them from the other side of the river where the water level was less.

Meanwhile, the NDRF team reached Kaushalya dam along with a boat. After about half an hour, both persons were brought out of the river in the boat around 1 pm.

Nand Kishore and Sikandar said they had descended into the river to take a selfie around 9 am. Later, they started taking a bath in the river. The water level started increasing all of a sudden. They tried to come out of the river, but failed to do so as the flow of water was fast. Later, they climbed atop a tree in the river.

SHO Harvinder Singh said when they came to know about the incident, a police team reached the site immediately and called the fire brigade and the NDRF team. He said the NDRF team with the help of the police and the fire brigade personnel rescued both persons safely from the dam side. A legal action will be taken against the duo for violating Section 144 of the IPC imposed by the police administration.
