Chandigarh, August 16

The office of the District Education Officer (DEO) has denied the allegation of issuing transfer certificates (TC) forcibly to students of Government High School, Colony No 4, for shifting them to the new building.

The UT Education Department has shifted more than 200 students to the new building — Government Model High School-II in Maloya — which was inaugurated earlier on August 5, following the rehabilitation of students’ families to the newly constructed EWS society. A few parents have accused the authorities of forcibly shifting their wards to the new building and asking them to take a test before getting enrolled in the new school.

“No one is forcing anyone to shift to the new building. There have been clear instructions on this matter. Students who were willful were issued the transfer certificate for shifting to the new building after taking an undertaking. There have been some misunderstandings,” said Anujit Kaur, DEO, UT Education Department. “No test was conducted or will be conducted for enrolling the students, especially for the junior wing. This will be a clear violation of the RTE Act. People should not be buy any rumours,” said Anujit.

Talking about the speculations of shutting down the school in Colony No 4, Anujit added that it was a matter related to the UT Estate Office. “Sooner or later, the school building will be razed by the Estate Office, along with the entire Colony No 4. We are not in a hurry to shift the students. Parents and students should also not worry about the admissions. We have informed the same to theCentral Board of Secondary Education and they have asked us to accommodate students as per their own wish. Students can take admission to any school in the city subjected to the fulfilment of conditions. As of now, there is no plan to shift all students immediately and the parents should also not panic,” said Anujit.
