The Chandigarh Police have booked a Sector 28 resident, who was selected as an auditor in 2015 and later terminated from his services in 2017, in a case of cheating.
According to the police, Aswathy VS, Senior Deputy Accountant General (Administration), Audit Accountant General, Punjab, Sector 17, complained that Dev Saini was selected as an auditor under the sports recruitment quota after which the suspect joined the office in April, 2015.
The complainant had alleged that the suspect had submitted a provisional certificate of Bachelor of Arts issued by Shridhar University, Pilani, Rajasthan.
The department wrote to the university to verify the authenticity of the mark sheet. In return, it was informed that the candidate was not a student of their university.
Thereafter, the department terminated the services of Dev Saini in August 2017. Later, a police complaint was submitted following which a case under Sections 420 (cheating), 465 (punishment for forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the suspect at the Sector 17 police station.
The case
