Chandigarh, May 7

To prevent non-essential movement of people and vehicles, the UT Administration has decided to continue with the weekend curfew in the city.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore here today.

The weekend curfew will be imposed from 5 am on Saturday till 5 am on Monday and no one would be allowed to leave their homes or move by vehicles during the curfew, read an order issued by the UT Administration.

However, parks would remain open from 6 am to 9 am for morning walkers, but people have to strictly maintain the Covid protocols.

UT Adviser Manoj Parida clarified that Sukhna Lake would continue to remain out of bounds. However, all other parks would remain open from 6 am to 9 am, he said.

Shops dealing with supply of essential goods like milk, bread, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, eggs, meat, groceries, bakeries, etc., will be allowed to remain open for home delivery up to 2 pm, Parida informed. Amid a surge in the Covid cases, the UT Administration had imposed strict restrictions from 5 pm on May 4 for a period of seven days.

The Administrator directed that weekend curfew should be strictly enforced by the police authorities.
