Four persons were killed while one suffered injuries in separate road accidents in the city.

In the first incident, two youths aged around 21 years were killed near the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology here on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Keshav Bansal of Tripuri and Amandeep of Joginder Nagar.

The police said the youths, who were riding on a motorcycle, were coming from Ratan Nagar when their two-wheeler rammed into a footpath and then into a railing near the Jail road.

The police said they both were not wearing helmets. They suffered injuries in their head.

SHO Tripuri Rajesh Malhotra said the youths died in the accident. The dead bodies were handed over to their family members after conducting post-mortem examinations. The police have registered a case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and have started investigations.

In another case, the police said Balbir Singh and Bant Singh were on their way on a motorcycle when their two-wheeler was hit by a rashly driven tempo-traveller on the Dhablan road. Complainant Gurpreet Singh of Nabha said his father-in-law Balbir Singh was killed in the accident on Monday while Bant Singh suffered injuries.

The police have registered a case against tempo-traveller driver Mejar Singh, a resident of Nabha, under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life) and 427 (mischief) of the IPC.

In yet another case, the police said an unidentified car driver rammed his vehicle into another car near Bear factory, Roni, on November 11. They said Harcharan Singh of Nabha, who was in another car, succumbed to his injuries on Monday. The police have registered a case against the unidentified car driver under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (Causing death by negligence) and 427 (mischief) of the IPC.
