Ambala: Two cousins allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a train near Mohri railway station here on Saturday. The victims have been identified as Ajay (20) and Suman (17), residents of Taraori, Karnal. Their mothers are sisters. The police said the reason for the extreme step was not clear. GRP SHO Ram Bachan said the bodies had been kept at Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment, for post-morem examination. TNS

chain snatcher arrested

Chandigarh: A 28-year-old youth has been arrested for snatching here on Saturday. The police said a woman resident of Sector 38 was returning to her house from Sector 37 at about 1 pm when a youth came from behind and snatched her gold chain near Santokh Hospital. As she resisted, the youth threatened to hit her with an iron rod. Some passersby nabbed the suspect, Akshay of Sector 38 West. The police said he was a graduate and photographer by profession. The suspect was allegedly hooked to drugs, cops claimed. TNS

Two booked 

for fraud

Kharar: The Kharar city police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 120 B of the IPC against Rajesh Puri, a resident of Mohali and Tek Chand, a resident of Chandigarh, on the charge of committing a fraud with Bahal Singh, a resident of Mohali and got his booth in Sunny Enclave here transferred illegally. The complainant told the police that he paid the full amount of the booth and later on came to know that the booth had been transferred in the name of another person illegally. OC

10-year-old assaulted, 1 held 

Ambala: The Ambala police have arrested a bank officer for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Naraingarh. The suspect has been identified as Devki Nandan. He was produced before a court which sent him to judicial custody. The victim and the suspect are tenants in a house. The victim’s mother alleged that the suspect sexually assaulted her minor daughter and also threatened to kill her if she narrated the incident to anyone. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act and Section 506 of the IPC. TNS

1 held with fake number plate

Chandigarh: The police have arrested a person with a fake number plate on his car. The police said Mohit Luthra, a resident of Joshi Nagar, Haibowal Kala, Ludhiana, had fixed a fake number PB-01A-1410 on his Innova car, which was impounded by the traffic police at a drunken driving naka on April 12. The police registered a case under Section 473, IPC, at the Industrial Area police station, and arrested the suspect. TNS

Youth held for eve-teasing

Chandigarh: The police have arrested a 20-year-old youth for eve-teasing. In a complaint to the police, the victim alleged that Naveen Kumar followed and eve-teased her at a market in Ram Darbar on Thursday. The police registered a case under Sections 354D and 506, IPC, and 12 of the POCSO Act at the Sector 31 police station and arrested the suspect, a resident of Ram Darbar. TNS

play station, laptop stolen

Chandigarh: Some unknown persons stole a Play Station, laptop, wrist watch and other articles from a house in Sector 3 here on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. In a complaint to the police, Gurpartap Singh Gill stated that Play Station 4 with HD wire and two controllers, Play Station 3 with wires and one controller, Play Station games, laptop, quilt, bed sheet, wrist watch and few small articles were stolen from his house after breaking locks of one room.  The police registered a case at the Sector 3 police station and started investigation. Three booked for cheating

Chandigarh: The police have booked three residents of Industrial Area in a fraud case. In a complaint to the police, Swati Jain, a resident of Sector 21, Panchkula, stated that Davinder Jain, Sushil Jain and Manohar Jain, all residents of the Industrial Area, Phase 2, started a business in partnership with her and formed a company, M/s Jain Industries. They jointly purchased land at Bhagwanpura village in Dera Bassi tehsil of Mohali district, she added. She alleged that the suspects later got registered a partnership deed illegally by forging her signature for unlawful gain against the said property. The police said a case under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471, IPC, was registered against the suspects at the Sector 17 police station and investigation was under progress. TNS

Two held in assault case

Chandigarh: The police have arrested two persons in an assault case. In a complaint to the police, Shivam Kumar, a resident of Sector 38, alleged that Vishal, alias Kalu, Rohan, and Oni Sansi thrashed and threatened him and his friend Rohtash near a temple in Sector 38-A on Thursday. The police registered a case under Sections 323, 341, 506 and 34, IPC, at the Sector-39 police station and arrested Rohan and Vishal, both residents of Sector 38, Chandigarh. In another case, Parveen Kumar, a resident of Kajheri village, alleged that Aman, alias Noni, and one more person beat him up near Smart School, Sector 50, and asked him to sit in their car (CH-01BQ-5038) on Friday. The complainant also alleged that they also took away Rs 70,000 and mobile phone from his shirt pocket. The police registered a case under Sections 341, 365, 511, 323, 506 and 34, IPC, at the Sector 49 police station against the suspects and started investigation. TNS

Chandigarh Police beat CRPF

Chandigarh:  Chandigarh Police registered a 40-run win over CRPF in a Tricity Cricket League match here on Saturday. Batting first, Chandigarh Police scored 146/7 in 20 overs. Balwinder made a quick-fire 52, while Jaswinder added 31 runs to the total. Nishar Mohamad bagged two wickets for CRPF. In reply, CRPF were all out for 106 runs in 17.4 overs. Nishar Mohamad and Vivek scored 26 runs each. For Chandigarh Police, Kapil claimed three wickets, while Yashpaul and Hariom took two wickets apiece. TNS

Manan helps Stunners win 

Panchkula:  A five-wicket haul by Manan Sharma helped Satluj Stunners beat Satluj Stalwarts by four runs in an U-13 Autumn Cup Cricket Tournament match here on Saturday. Batting first, Stunners were all out for 90 runs in 23.4 overs. Manan Sharma (39) and Aarav Malik (21) made useful contributions to the total. Daivik Balyan and Parv took two wickets. In reply, Stalwarts were bowled out for 86 runs in 18.4 overs. Manan claimed five wickets for Stunners. Utsav (37) was the top scorer for Stalwarts. Vividh Sherawat made 35 runs. TNS
