Chandigarh: Two persons have been arrested by the crime branch of the UT police for snatching and vehicle thefts. A team of the crime branch, led by Inspector Amanjot Singh, nabbed Arvind and Pinku, both residents of Kambali village, Phase XI, Mohali. The police said they had snatched a mobile phone from Arvind, a resident of Sector 47, on March 5, after which a case was registered at the Sector 31 police station. The snatched mobile has been recovered from them. Their interrogation revealed that they were also involved in vehicle thefts. The police recovered two stolen two-wheelers from them. “The vehicles were stolen from areas under the jurisdiction of the Sector 36 and 17 police stations,” said a police official. TNS
Man held with 10-gm heroin
Dera Bassi: The CIA staff, Mubarikpur, has arrested a person and recovered 10 gm of heroin from him. The suspect has been identified as Mufraz Khan, a resident of Chandigarh. Giving details, Parkash Masih, CIA in-charge, Mubarikpur, said acting on a tip-off the police team, along with the CIA staff, intercepted a person near Dhakoli. During checking, the police team recovered 10 gm of heroin from him. Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the suspect under the NDPS Act at the Mubarikpur police post. The police produced the suspect before the court, which sent him to judicial custody. OC
Produce convict in court, cops told
Chandigarh: A local court has directed the police to produce convict Baldev Singh in the court on or before the next date of hearing on April 30. Baldev Singh, a resident of Sector 41, had escaped from the court after he was held guilty in a drug case earlier this month. During resumed hearing in the case today, the police sought time to trace the accused. The court had also directed his wife, who gave surety for his bail, to produce him in the court on or before the next date of hearing. The convict’s wife had submitted the mobile phone of the accused in the court. The court had already issued arrest warrants against the accused. Panchkula: Naveen Chanchal scored a half-century as Narinder Walia Cricket Academy (NWCA) registered a 52-run win over Dikshant Global Cricket Academy (DGCA) in an Autumn Cup U-12 Cricket Tournament match here on Friday. Batting first, NWCA, led by Chanchal’s 65-run knock, scored 183/2 in 25 overs. Raaj Singh Kapoor added 34 runs to the total. In reply, DGCA could only manage 131/7 in the allotted overs. Chandigarh Police beat CBI
Chandigarh: Chandigarh Police registered a 10-wicket win over CBI in a Tricity Premier League match here on Friday. Chasing 80 runs for victory, Chandigarh Police romped home in 4.1 overs. Balvinder Saini smashed an unbeaten 52, while Kapil remained not out on 25. Earlier, CBI were bowled out for 79 runs in 18.2 overs. Anibhav Tyagi made 24 runs, while Shushil added 20 runs to the total. Rajiv Ambasta claimed three wickets, while Ramandeep took two. In another match, Infosys defeated HDFC by nine wickets. Batting first, HDFC were all out for 115 runs in 20 overs. Pardeep Sharma (33) and Sunny Chopra (27) made useful contributions to the total. Pardeep claimed four wickets for Infosys, while Vicky took three wickets. In reply, Infosys rode on Abhinav Mittal’s whirlwind 55 to scamper home in 9.3 overs. Karan contributed 34 runs to the chase.
