Just about a fortnight after the Punjab and Haryana High Court took suo motu cognisance of the alleged gang rape of a 21-year-old woman by more than 40 men in Morni, the Haryana Police on Monday claimed that technology revealed the alleged involvement of the victim’s husband.
In an affidavit placed before the High Court, Panchkula Assistant Superintendent of Police Anshu Singla submitted that the call details of the phone belonging to the arrested accused were analysed. On examination of the call details, tower locations and interrogation of the accused/suspects, it was found the victim’s husband was also involved in trafficking of his wife.
The victim’s husband was joined in the investigation, and based on the evidence he was arrested on July 25. His disclosure statement was recorded and videographed. He admitted that he had sent the victim with the main accused, Sunil, alias Sunny, who was running the guest house where the incident took place.
Treating the matter as public interest litigation after going through newspaper reports on the incident, the Bench had earlier given counsel appearing for the State of Haryana the liberty to seek instructions before filing an affidavit.
The woman was allegedly raped at a guest house in Kaimbwala village in Morni for three days by around 40 men between July 15 and 18. The matter is being investigated by a special investigation team of the Panchkula police.
The woman, on the other hand, has claimed that her husband was being falsely implicated and framed in the case. She has since the very beginning been asking for the transfer of the investigations to the Chandigarh Police.
