Economics experts dwell on Indian policies, global biz

Ludhiana, February 22

A national seminar on ‘Economics policy and global business: A new perspective’ was organised today by the postgraduate department of commerce and management and department of economics of Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women on the campus.

In the inaugural session, the keynote address was delivered by Gunmala Suri from University Business School, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Talking about new economy drivers and disrupters, she said the change from analog to digital was a big challenge and the best way to predict the future was to create it yourself.

The first technical session was delivered by Ashok Khurana, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Yamunanagar, and Mohd Saleem, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Kamla Lohtia Sanatan Dharam College, Ludhiana.

Khurana threw light on ‘Contribution and performance review of service sector in Indian economy’. He said the Indian service sector contributed more than 5 per cent of GDP, which presented a unique opportunity to future economic growth as the service sector was the key driver of India’s economic growth. Saleem, in his address, said globalisation was an important concept to promote business where product was knowledge, fuel was technology and currency was human capital. He asserted that the policy of innovation was the key to success at global platform.

For the second technical session, Ashwani Bhalla, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, SCD Government College, Ludhiana, was the resource person. He shared his views on ‘Has policy paralysis from 1950-2013 influenced economic paralysis now?’ He said the change in the economic policies had changed the perspective of the people about investments to be made in India.

Principal Sarita Bahl thanked the resource persons for conducting the workshop and encouraged students to attend such seminars regularly.
