5 Nuh monuments get state protection

The Haryana Government has decided to take five monuments in Nuh district (formerly Mewat) under state protection for conservation as per the provisions of the Punjab Ancient Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1964.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has approved a proposal to take Ghasera fort, an old tehsil building in Nuh, Kotla mosque in Kotla village, chhatris and a kuan at Meoli village under state protection, said a spokesperson.

The Ghasera fort lies at Ghasera village, 14 km from Nuh town on the Nuh-Sohna road. It was under the control of Bahadur Singh Bargujar, a Rajput chief of 11 villages. He was killed in 1753 by the famous Jat King Surajmal of Bharatpur state after the Jats besieged and ran over the Ghasera fort. After that, the Jats turned to Delhi by defeating Mughal King Ahmad Shah Bahadur and occupied the Red Fort there in 1754.

Ruined walls and a grand entrance show that Ghasera is a historical village. It was built with stones and lakhouri bricks with lime surkhi mortar.

The old tehsil building is on the main road of Nuh. In 1861, the district of Gurgaon was re-arranged into five tehsils — Gurgaon, Ferozepur Jhirkha, Nuh, Palwal and Rewari.

In 1872-73, the building of Nuh tehsil was constructed by the British over 14 kanals, eight marlas within the revenue estate of Nuh. The single-storey building made with bricks has 30 rooms.

Kotla mosque is 6.5 km from Nuh town. The red sandstone and grey quartzite tomb has an inscription on its ruined gateway, dating it to 1392-1400.

There are two chhatris and a kuan (well). Meoli village is in Nuh tehsil of Mewat district. It is 7 km from sub-district headquarters Nuh and 7 km from district headquarters Mewat. The ancestral villages of Deharwal Meos were at Meoli which was colonised by Mewa Singh.

He was the head of 52 khorei (settlements) in Kala Pahad.

The chosen ones  

• Ghasera fort: It was under the control of Rajput chief Bahadur Singh Bargujar. It was built by stones and lakhouri bricks with lime surkhi mortar. 
• Old tehsil building in Nuh: The British constructed the building in 1872-73. The single-storey building made with bricks has 30 rooms.
• Kotla mosque: Red sandstone and grey quartzite tomb has an inscription on its ruined gateway, dating it to 1392-1400. The mosque is a square structure on a raised platform. 
• Two chhatris and a kuan in Meoli village: The ancestral villages of Deharwal Meos were at Meoli which was colonised by Mewa Singh.
