Karnal Girl at Aussie Parliament

Karnal: Twenty-year-old Sanjoli Banerjee of Karnal got a chance to be an Australian Senator for a day under the Girls Takeover Parliament Programme. She is the only Indian who got this honour of replacing Senaror Larissa Waters for a day. Sanjoli’s speech on 'threat of climate change' was read out by Greens Party president Richard de Natale in the Parliament. He voiced her concern over global warming and supported her idea of sustainable development that would be the greatest gift to the coming generations. Later, Sanjoli met Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and handed over ‘The Young Women's Charter’, urging him to empower young women to join politics and the Parliament irrespective of age, ethnicity and colour. At present, Sanjoli is pursuing a Bachelors degree in International Security at Australian National University.

200 units of blood donated 

Faridabad: A blood donation camp was organised on the campus of the JC Bose YMCA University of Science and Technology here recently. The camp held in association with the YMCA Alumni Association and the Rotary Club of Faridabad, as many as 200 units of blood were collected. The donors received certificates of recognition. The camp was coordinated by the NSS and Youth Red Cross Wing of the university under the supervision of director, youth welfare, Pradeep Dimari, and deputy dean, student welfare, Sonia Bansal. Dimari said the university organises blood donation camps from time to time to educate the youth on the beneficial aspects of this social activity. He said holding of such camps not only promote awareness about safe blood transfusion but motivate students to donate voluntarily for a noble cause. 

Student gets Maratha scholarship

Sonepat: Neeru, a postgraduate student of BPS Women University, Khanpur Kalan, has been selected for the Maratha scholarship for her research proposal ‘Awareness among women against sex exploitation at workplaces’ in the 7th Social Works Congress organised at Lucknow University in UP. This scholarship is given every year to postgraduate girl students to encourage them towards research by the Martha Feror Foundation, New Delhi. Neeru along with Mamju Pawar and Priti Dabas participated in the Congress.
