Shimla, January 24
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said that the government had allocated Rs 13 crore for the construction of heliports at Rakkar village in Pragpur and Palampur in Kangra district, Reckong Peo in Kinnaur district and in Chamba district.
He said that the government was making earnest efforts to construct heliports in all district headquarters of the state to provide air connectivity to tourists and local people. “Himachal has hilly terrains and the construction of heliports will go a long way in attracting tourists and saving their time on road travel. Heliports will also be useful in providing prompt assistance to local residents in case of an emergency,” he added.
Sukhu said that besides horticulture and hydropower sectors, the tourism sector could also play a vital role in strengthening the economy of the state.
“Keeping this in view, the government has accorded priority to the tourism sector, as thousands of families are associated with it directly or indirectly. The government is making all-out efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure,” he added.
He said that a target of attracting five crore tourists every year had been set and infrastructure was being developed. The state government had launched various schemes for the tourism sector and the Winter Carnival was organised in Shimla for the first time, leading to a rise in the number of tourists visiting the state, he added.
