The Weather Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall/snowfall at some places in several districts from January 31 to February 1. The precipitation is likely to start on Tuesday night at some places and will continue over the next 5-6 days.

Disruption in services likely

  • As per the Weather Department, disruptions of essential services such as water and electricity, communications and related services are likely during the precipitation spell
  • Visibility is likely to decrease significantly, causing difficulty in commuting. There's a likelihood of disruption of traffic due to heavy snowfall in mid and high hills
  • The department has advised the farmers to keep the livestock indoors due to low temperature and make adequate arrangements for keeping them warm

“Three or four spells of heavy rain/snowfall are likely in the districts of Lahaul-Spiti, Shimla (including Shimla city and adjoining areas), Kinnaur, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi during this time, especially tomorrow and day after” said a spokesperson of the Weather Department.

The spokesperson further said that light to moderate rain was likely to occur at most places of Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una, Solan and Sirmaur during this period.

Besides, occasional thunderstorm/lightning in low hills/plains accompanied with gusty wind conditions are likely to occur at isolated places in mid and high hill areas/districts during the period.

The department has advised the farmers to keep the livestock indoors due to low temperature and make adequate arrangements for keeping them warm. The Weather Department has advised the people to follow traffic advisories and other guidelines issued by the departments concerned.
