MeT warns of rain, thunderstorm in Himachal

Cold wave conditions continued in mid and higher hills and no relief is expected as the local MeT office has predicted wet spell for six days up to March 3.

The office has issued warning of thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and hailstorm at isolated places in nine districts (barring Kullu, Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts) on February 28 and orange warning of heavy rain, snow and thunderstorm accompanied with hailstorm and lightning in 10 districts barring tribal districts of Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur) on February 29.

The region had a clear day in the morning but dark clouds overcast the sky by the afternoon and icy winds swept the area.

Scattered rain in the region and Sujanpur Tira and Hamirpur recorded 18 mm rain.

Minimum temperatures dropped by a few notches and Keylong was the coldest with a low of minus 10 degree, followed by Kalpa minus 1.4 degree, Manali minus 1 degree, Kufri 1.6 degree, Bhuntar 4.5 degree, Shimla 4.8 degree, Dalhousie 5.4 degree, Palampur 5.5 degree, Solan 5.7 degree, Sundernagar 6.2 degree, Dharamsala 7.4 degree and Una 9.8 degree.

There was no significant change in maximum temperatures and Una was the hottest with a high of 25.8 degree. In spite of periodical rain and snowfall, the state received average 136. 9 mm rain during the winter from January 1 to February 26 against the normal rainfall of 172.4 mm, a deficit of 21 per cent.
