To beat inflation, ‘Bharat Rice’ launched at Rs 29/kg

In another move aimed at curbing inflationary pressures in the food economy, the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution today launched subsidised “Bharat Rice” brand, priced at Rs 29 per kg.

The initiative is set to counter the escalating prices of essential food items, particularly non-basmati rice which has been hovering around Rs 40 per kg, ensuring food affordability for the general populace.

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Textiles and Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal launched the sale of rice under ‘Bharat’ brand and flagged off 100 mobile vans.

Other goods in market

• ‘Bharat Atta’ is already being sold at Rs 27.50 per kg in 5 kg and 10 kg packings
• ‘Bharat Dal’ (chana dal) is also being sold at Rs 60 per kg and onions at Rs 25 per kg

Addressing the event, Goyal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sensitive towards the needs of the people of the country. It is under his watch that prices of essential commodities is being kept in check. He said that the government was committed towards welfare of farmers as well as people of the country as the government was purchasing essential commodities from farmers and selling these to consumers at subsidised rates whenever needed.
