The death toll in Wednesday’s accident in Baramulla district has increased to ten, with two injured passengers succumbing to their injuries late Wednesday night, officials said on Thursday.

The two persons, who were moved from Baramulla to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar, died during treatment late Wednesday night.

The accident took on Wednesday when a Tata Sumo vehicle, traveling from Bujthalan village to Boniyar Uri with 15 passengers onboard, skidded off the road and plummeted into a gorge, resulting in eight fatalities and seven injuries. All those killed were residents of Bujthalan village.

On Wednesday evening, the J&K government announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to be disbursed to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

Kashmir RTO Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari said the government is very concerned over this accident. He said strict adherence to traffic regulations is necessary under Motor Vehicles Act and the government is committed to enforcing them rigorously.
