Jalandhar, January 11
In a first, the government hospitals of Punjab would soon have patient facilitation centres to assist and guide patients. Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh said this during his visit to the Civil Hospital here today. After reviewing health services at the Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Civil Hospital, the health minister, accompanied by Rajya Sabha MPs Balbir Singh Seechewal, Ashok Mittal, and Lok Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Rinku, said these centres would be set up in all government hospitals for the convenience of patients.
He said the centres would have proper seating capacity. The staff of these facilitation centres would furnish credible information to patients about doctors as per their needs. The minister said staff would also take patients, especially ailing and old-aged to doctors’ rooms themselves.
The minister said patients visiting government health institutions must not face any kind of problem in availing treatment and their utmost satisfaction must be accorded top priority.
In another major decision to make drug-dependents self-reliant, the health minister said they must be enrolled in skill-development courses to wean them away from drugs. He said skill development courses would make them employable so that they don’t fall prey to drugs again.
Prominent amongst those present on the occasion were AAP leader Olympian Surinder Singh Sodhi, ADC Amit Mahajan, Civil Surgeon Dr Jagdeep Chawla, Medical Superintendent Dr Geeta and other officials.
